Game Curiosities Part 1: Easter Eggs
ATTENTION!!
***This article contains spoilers, so it is suggested to read it after finishing its current version! ***
This game was born in origin to be just a compilation of memes and references, visible through the mechanics and skills of each character, descriptions in the game and some special events here and there. Now the game is being developed with a more "serious" and challenging gameplay (I'm trying, really!). Even so, I wanted to put as many references as possible for all the fans of Hololive to have a little smile while playing the game, and some interesting facts that may attract people that is new to this community as well. Here is an extensive list of these events and some Easter eggs that you may have missed during your gameplay!
- Marine's Doujin: The first Stage welcomes you with a room filled with books here and there, which are BL doujin coming from Marine's memories. One in particular though is different: in fact, if you read the opened book in the floor, you can read a fragment of a real doujin novel Marine wrote in one of her Minecraft streams
- Language Barrier: If you started the game with Gura, Ame or Calli, you will notice that Marine, and later other girls, will speak in Japanese (the text is literally in hiragana!). This doesn't happen if you play as Kiara or Ina since, we know, they have enough Japanese listening skills to understand them. After Subaru's Stage, though, AO-chan will grant you the ability to understand them without any problem
- Chronicles of Hololive: In Mel, Luna and in the Office Stages, there are some libraries, which one of them have books with the most unusual titles... all of them are references to many events in the Hololive history! Among them, references to Reine's fan fiction readings, Haachama Cooking and the Sport Festival from 2020! Moona's Stage have also libraries with many books, but unfortunately for them all the books are written in Indonesian, so they can't read them!
- Demon Dice: In Mel's Stage, there is an Accessory called "Demon Dice". All I can say is if you know, you know!
- Polka's Hololive Alternative Episode: In Lamy's Stage, in the hidden room where Lamy's Soul Weapon is, there is a carved stone, in which there is written an adaptation of one of Polka's imaginary scenarios Basically, Polka imagine Lamy betraying all members of their generation and a battle between her and Polka, Nene and Botan. After that stream, many fan art reproducing the scene were made and also the "Demon Lord Lamy" fan art was born, probably for the same reason
- Prisuners: In Risu's Stage, you can find her Soul Weapon inside a... prison? Well, apparently Risu's fans are also called "Prisuners" so that's why the prison was there!
- Airman ga Taosenai!: To remember the struggles Subaru had dealing with Airman Stage and Boss (from Megaman 2) an enemy resembling the robot appears in her Stage. Considering the ambience and the fact "Oozora", Subaru's surname means literally "Big Sky", its presence is very fitting!
- Ominous Presence: In almost all stages there is always a statue present close to the Red Crystal where the Boss Figth happens. The statue, as explained in the game, is a representation of Hastur, the Yellow King, a god incorporated in the Lovecraft narratives, but which origin comes from Ambrose Bierce's short story "Haïta the Shepherd" as a benign god of shepherds. How it became another Eldricht Horror, enemy of Chtullu, is another story!
- Pillar Men: In Aki's Stage, you fight enemies resembling Aki, Coco and Choco's alter egos from their Ark gameplay. Sometimes, you can also fight against all three of them at the same time and, in those occasions, the Jojo reference comes as the BGM, which changes in the famous melody!
- Lost One: In Polka and Nene's stages, you can see there are some tombstones. This is a reference to the missing member Aloe Mano, and also a hint to find her secret Stage.
- Legend of Polka: Before fighting Polka, you have to face three different enemies: first, a troop of Za'in (Polka's fans), Shadow of I. and Magical Tokki. The last two are a reference to the first episode of Legend of Polka, a variety show featuring Polka and a staff member, Izutsu-san. Shadow of I. is a reference to Izutsu, while Magical Tokki is a character Polka drew back when she was a school
- China Town: Nene's Stage and her Alter Form design are inspired by Chinese culture. This is to remember her first design, which instead of having cute bear features, it was inspired by Chinese fashion
- Nanora!: In Luna's Stage, there is a Piano and, if you interact with it, "Nanora ga yatte kita!" will play in the background for a while! This is a reference to one of Luna's streams in which she played in her piano the theme of Godzilla, singing along with the cutest voice! (you can hear it here: )
- Gift for a friend: In Luna's Stage, you can find a piece of paper, in which there is the drawing Luna drew for Coco before her graduation! (well, you can't see the drawing, at least yet!)
- The Yellow Sign: A little hard to notice most of the time, but almost all girls in their Alter Form have printed the Yellow Sign on their clothes. This is the symbol of Hastur, and it's a sign that they are under the control of Hastur's priest, Azazel. Just a little hint for those with kin eyes before reaching the point in the story where this is explained
- Apostle of the Twelve: In all Stages, there is always present a certain enemy: Apostle of the Twelve is an enemy inspired by the many accounts on Youtube from fans that use that as account name (for example "Ina's Apostle [1st of the Twelve]"). There are apostles for all the Hololive girls (as well for other Vtubers as well!). Whether there are twelve apostles for each girl or not, it's not clear though
- VIRUS: An enemy that appear only inside treasure boxes. As for the Apostle of the Twelve, this enemy is inspired by the many "VIRUS" accounts on Youtube (for example "Choco Virus", "YAGOO Virus", etc). It's not certain, but probably there are indeed one account "VIRUS" for each girl!
This is the end for part 1! I'll post a part 2 in a couple of days, and perhaps a guide to all the Soul Weapons as well!
Also, if you have some suggestions or questions regarding the game I'd accept them gladly!
